01 — the brief

Digital support

The DL Planning website supports the Department of Education’s Digital Learning Framework – one of the key supports envisaged under the Department of Education’s Digital Strategy for Schools 2015-2020.

We were keen to ensure dlplanning.ie provides schools and teachers with a structure that allows them to identify where they are on the journey towards embedding digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment.

02 — the process

Smart architecture

The Digital Learning Framework is a complicated document that was conceived to be produced as a written document. An online solution was not considered when the document was being written. dlplanning.ie needed to be visually engaging while also not diluting the detailed matrix of information that needed to be conveyed. We focused on creating a simplified and visual architecture to enable teachers to quickly and easily access video and file resources.

03 — the solution

Digital adoption

The DL Planning website helps schools and teachers identify where they are on the journey towards embedding digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment, and enable them to progress in that journey. We designed an interactive colour wheel to present the planning cycle in a sequence of steps. Using visuals where possible to explain processes and cycles reduces the volume of content and minimises effort for the visitor.

04 — responsive experience

Accessible

The site also needed to appeal to non-technical school principals as well as teachers who have an established interest in digital technologies. Providing quick and easy access to resources on all devices was key.

Artizan was approached as they have a proven record in providing visual solutions to complicated projects.

Anthony Kilcoyne — Deputy Director, PDST

The site is a truly creative solution to what was a big challenge. Presenting the material in the Digital Learning Framework in a readable manner and associating it with related case studies and videos was not an easy job – but it has been done superbly in this site.

Artizan is attentive to detail, easy to work with and we are delighted with the result.
